SiriusXM
We are tasked to design a space that is “an expression of the brand”, rather than a revenue-generating store, by utilizing established and emerging technology to connect with their audience.

Overview
SiriusXM wants to create a physical space whose focus will be a branded experience and they have decided to pursue the pop-up shop model. It will be located in urban centres for short periods of time (3-4 weeks) and then moved to other cities around the country. We are tasked to design a space that is “an expression of the brand”, rather than a revenue-generating store, by utilizing established and emerging technology to connect with their audience.
Our goal is “To design a pop-up experience that immerses visitors into the world of SiriusXM through a series of physical and digital interactions.”

Research
Insights
From our research we were able to frame concrete goals we want to achieve by the end of this project and theses goals include:
- Differentiate Sirius XM from traditional perceptions of what a satellite company offers
- Break away from a single perceived stereotype the brand name generate
- Familiarize younger audiences with broader service
- Promote the smart features of existing services other than individual music/streaming lean into the space experience they provide instead
Ideation
Site Selection: Market Square
When making our site selection we took into account our client, our target audience (younger users aged from 20–35), and the types of interaction we might want to install. As Sirius XM is a company that emphasizes technology and forwardness, the location my team decided to be the most suitable for this pop-up experience was the Market Square in downtown Pittsburgh. Located in the heart of the city centre, we believed that this location offers a nice balance between professional occupation and personal relaxation.

Prototyping Process
Laser Cut: We designed and used the laser cutter to cut the wood and plastic pieces we needed.

Solution
1 Lux-iliary Ride Experience
We wanted to allow visitors to immerse themselves in the sound space of various physical vehicles: how some things sounds in an advertisement or on a mobile device is drastically different than the real thing. Therefore, on the sides of the the pop-up, or the “radio waves,” are multiple luxury vehicles that have built-in SiriusXM services.

02 Concert Remix
The middle interior presents screen-projected walls of existing SiriusXM streaming with an interactive infinity floor. Visitors can move around the space and “vote” on their livestream, sports game, or concert of preference to play next.

DJ Soundscapes
The DJ experience utilizes sound visualization technology to create an immersive interactive experience. By selecting the songs they want to hear on the kiosk, the visitors will get the chance to see the music the chose transformed into graphics onto the screens around them. The genre of music each visitor selects generates different visualizations, promoting moments worth capturing.
